Going Down to Help

I'll be gone this weekend in Mississippi. Myself and a few others from Carnegie Mellon have volunteered to help with the relief effort. I'll be back on Sunday afternoon and will have a post with more details on what we did.

You're giving web advertising for charity donations? Aren't you afraid that people will just come in and post links in your comments without donating anything?

Anyway, it's a good idea, and I applaud you for coming up with it.

Thanks for having a big heart!

We need more people in the world to be giving even when we're not in disaster mode.

Thanks again!

well, it s time that the people of USA really feels what is happen in the world. The vision of too many people is simply,, the rest of the world doesn t exist for the northamerican. Ciertanly, never I would wish any weather problem pass by your country or any country of the world,, but they live,,,you must know ,,many disasters happen in the world ,,and many people dies,,,,,,,and for you ,,doesn t care nothing!!,,so perhaps it s time you feel near the scare and known the money can t buy anything,,so sometimes we really must think in the people of the world and pray for them. It s easy,,if you try.

Interesting idea.
I live in Gulfport, Mississippi. Email when you are down and where you will be. Frankly, the local church groups, aided by national groups, do more than Red Cross, but I applaud all efforts to help my neighbors across our Coast. Yours is a most novel charity idea.

Why is it that you get any attention at all, when we are the ones down here actually working?

I am a CMU alumnus (Heinz 95) and am attached to FEMA down here. If you want the real scoop, check out our blog: www.federalresponse.blogspot.com

I pay taxes... why should I donate any more money? Half of the people could have left but didnt. Lazy, ignorant, who knows... But I shouldnt have to pay anymore for them.

Id rather give money to people who didnt already benefit from my taxes.

Good page though, hope it works out.

Bless you brother, I applaud you, I wish that I could have done more than just sending up prayers and making financial contributions, it just hasn't seemed like enough. My prayers as well for your continued safety and generosity of spirit.

hi. i'm from new orleans - i had to leave. i've been separated from my boyfriend, who's still down there figuring out what will happen with our mortagage. the rest of my friends and family are scattered accross the country... i am in new york. maybe it's true that chuch groups and such are doing more to help out, but here the red cross has set up a huge center downtown including several other organizations. they've been very helpful - got me hooked up with food stamps and winter clothes and the salvation army, and they gave me free movie passes. they may not be perfect, but they are helping us. so good work. i would donate to your cause if i wasn't semi-homeless.
